The GDPR - what's under the hat?
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that came into effect on the past 25th of May is something that, according to several polls, most people are still unaware of. Over these last weeks, you may have received several mails from companies and brands (if you have subscribed my newsletter, you also got one), notifying you about it.
This post is my own interpretation of it, after having read several documentation on the subject and after talking with other professionals who are also making changes in their websites and online stores, in order to comply with the GDPR.
WHAT EXACTLY DOES THAT “GDPR” MEAN?
The GDPR has different effects according to each type of business, but in my case (my website & blog), in simple terms, what this means to you is that I’m obliged to let you know specifically what is that I do with the info I collect about you as a reader/visitor of this website.
In fact, I’ve had that info available for a long time now, on the page Terms of Use & Privacy, which can be accessed through the link on the footer of any page of this website.
Furthermore, the subscribers of my newsletter have also received a mail from me a couple weeks ago, asking them to update their subscription preferences. If you haven’t updated your preferences or if you wish to subscribe the newsletter, click HERE. And what these options mean, is the following:
Monthly Newsletter - by checking this box, it means you are interested in receiving the newsletter I send every month, with updates made to the blog.
Special Announcements - by checking this box, you are giving me consent to send you mails with any announcements that I may make in the future, like special promotions, discounts, giveaways or other important announcements related to this website.
As usual, if you change your mind in the future, you can always edit these preferences or cancel the newsletter subscription by clicking on the “unsubscribe” at the end of each newsletter. Or, you can simply send an e-mail to gmc@goncalomcatarino.com with “unsubscribe” on the subject.
Hope this has clarified those who received my e-mail regarding the GPDR and any person interested in knowing what I’m doing with the info provided by your visit to this website.

O Regulamento Geral de Protecção de Dados (RGPD), que entrou em vigor no passado dia 25 de Maio é algo que, de acordo com várias sondagens, a maioria das pessoas desconhece. Nestas últimas semanas, devem ter recebido vários mails de empresas e marcas (quem recebe as minhas newsletters mensais, também recebeu um mail desses), notificando-vos acerca das implicações e questões legais envolvidas.
Este post é a minha própria interpretação do RGPD, depois de ter lido documentação diversa sobre o assunto e depois de muitas impressões trocadas com outros profissionais, que são também eles obrigados a fazer algumas adaptações aos seus websites e lojas online de acordo com a nova regulamentação.
O QUE SIGNIFICA EXACTAMENTE ESTE “RGPD”?
O RGDP tem diferentes implicações de acordo com o tipo de informações dos utilizadores/cidadãos que são recolhidas. No meu caso (este website), em termos práticos, significa que sou obrigado a especificar que tipo de informação é recolhida e o que é feita com ela.
Na verdade, há já muito tempo que está disponível no rodapé deste site, um link para a página de “Terms of Use & Privacy” (Termos de Utilização de Privacidade), que contém praticamente toda a informação a que o RGPD obriga.
Além disso, os subscritores da newsletter receberam um mail há cerca de duas semanas, onde foi pedido que actualizassem as suas preferências em relação às comunicações que recebem da minha parte. Quem não chegou a fazê-lo ou quem está interessado em receber, pontualmente, as minhas actualizações, pode clicar AQUI. As opções apresentadas significam o seguinte:
“Monthly Newsletter” (newsletter mensal) - seleccionando esta opção, significa que estão interessados/as em receber a newsletter que costumo enviar mensalmente, com actualizações do site e do blog.
“Special Announcements” (comunicações especiais) - seleccionando esta opção, significa que estão interessados/as em receber mails com comunicações pontuais que possa vir a fazer, relativas a promoções especiais, descontos, giveaways ou outros comunicados importantes relacionados com este site e blog.
Como sempre, se mudarem de ideias, podem alterar estas preferências ou cancelar a recepção dos meus mails. Estas opções estão disponíveis no final de cada newsletter ou se preferirem, basta enviarem um mail para gmc@goncalomcatarino.com com “unsubscribe” no assunto.
Espero que este post tenha ajudado a esclarecer quem recebeu o meu mail relativo ao RGPD, bem como os/as restantes utilizadores/as deste site, que estejam interessados/as em saber como são usados os dados dispobilizados pela vossa navegação.
