A photographic fresh breeze

Changing brands or systems can always be a drag for photographers, that’s why most of us stick with a brand or eventually, if we are unsatisfied, we change everything, cameras, accessories, etc… and considering the prices of photographic gear, these changes only happen in cases of real need.

But the market is always changing and technology evolving and one has to try to keep the pace. I’ve been hearing a lot about the mirrorless cameras that appeared a couple years ago, but I never really paid much attention to it. Not because it didn’t deserve my attention, but mostly because I hadn’t had the chance to try for real, until very recently, when I got the chance to have one those cameras with me for a few days, more specifically, the Fuji X-T2 with the 35mm and the 10-24mm lenses.

I’m not a technical guy, so don’t worry, I won’t bother you with the technical aspects of it. Anyway, trying a camera from a different brand and that operates in a slightly different way, can be a bit strange during a good while. If I had to make a comparison so that the non-photographers reading this can have a better understanding, I would say that’s like changing cars. Imagine changing from a car you’ve been driving for years and that you know all of its particularities, to a new one, with a slightly different technology. And now, imagine that car is your tool for work. It’s what helps you pay the bills at the end of the month.

Obviously, I didn’t risk taking a camera I don’t know to a shooting with a client. I took it for a “test drive” around the city and then, I also wanted to see if I could achieve the same results as in my previous testshoots, so, I called Rita Mota to help me.

Rita is a young freelance model, who you should check out, if you don’t know her yet. She has this slightly exotic look and she’s quite relaxed and funny to work with. Plus, she’s the type of model I love: not afraid to try and push herself for different results.

She came with a friend, prepared with several ideas and clothes and the vibe was so nice that I almost forgot I was shooting with a camera I wasn’t familiar with. You can see the results bellow and honestly, I didn’t miss my dear Canon during this shooting. Can anyone spot the differences from my previous shootings?

After returning the Fuji and its lenses, I was now left with a dilema… Canon has been serving me well for these past years, but damn… shooting with the Fuji X-T2 felt like a fresh breeze 😃

No que toca a fotografia, mudar de marca ou de sistema, pode ser uma dor de cabeça daquelas... por isso, a maioria dos fotógrafos costuma manter-se fiel a uma marca e quando se sente insatisfeito, lá muda de marca e consequentemente, acessórios, etc... e considerando os preços dos equipamentos, esta mudança só acontece mesmo em casos de insatisfação.

Mas, o mercado está sempre a mudar e a tecnologia a evoluir e temos de tentar acompanhar as novidades. Há já algum tempo que ouvia falar bem das câmeras mirrorless, que começaram a invadir o mercado há uns dois anos, mas nunca lhes prestei muita atenção. Não é que não merecessem, mas como ainda não tinha tido oportunidade de as testar convenientemente, lá fui deixando andar. Até recentemente, em que surgiu a oportunidade de testar a meu gosto a Fuji X-T2 com as lentes de 35mm e 10-24mm.

Não sou um fotógrafo tecnicista, por isso, não se preocupem que não vos vou aborrecer com questões técnicas. 

Usar uma câmera de uma marca diferente, pode ser um bocado estranho durante os primeiros tempos. Se tivesse que fazer uma comparação, para que quem não é fotógrafo possa perceber melhor, diria que é como mudar de carro. Imaginem mudar de um carro que conduzem há anos e que conhecem todas as suas particularidades, para outro diferente e que funciona com uma tecnologia ligeiramente diferente. E imaginem também, que esse carro, é o vosso ganha pão.

Claro que não arrisquei levar esta camera para um trabalho com um cliente. Levei-a para um test drive pela cidade e depois, curioso para saber se conseguiria obter os mesmos resultados que nos meus testshoots, chamei a Rita Mota para me ajudar.

A Rita, é uma jovem modelo freelancer, a quem deviam prestar mais atenção, caso ainda não a conheçam. Tem aquele ar assim meio exótico e é uma pessoa super relaxada e divertida, com quem se passa uma boa tarde de trabalho. Além disso, é o tipo de modelo que gosto: não tem medo de experimentar coisas diferentes e gosta de se tentar exceder para conseguir melhores resultados.

Ela veio com uma amiga, preparada com várias ideias e roupas e o ambiente foi tão descontraído, que praticamente me esqueci que estava a fotografar com uma câmera desconhecida. Podem ver os resultados em cima e, para ser sincero, não senti a falta da minha querida Canon. Digam-me sinceramente, conseguem ver as diferenças entre estas fotografias e as das sessões anteriores?

Depois de devolver a Fuji e as lentes, fiquei com um belo dilema... a Canon tem-me servido bem nestes anos, mas porra... fotografar com a Fuji X-T2, foi como uma lufada de ar fresco 😃
