The purpose of this blog has always been to share my thoughts and insights behind my work and personal projects and also, to tell you more about inspiring people and places. If you’ve been following my @keeponwalking account on Instagram, you may have noticed that I’ve spent some days in Alentejo lately. And one of the highlights of these days around Alentejo, was one of the places I stayed at: Casa Azimute.

This is a fairly new place, just outside Estremoz, created by Andy and Danny, a Belgium duo with a keen eye for architecture, design and comfort.

Going straight to the point, I can tell you that this was one of the best experiences I’ve had so far. Why? Let me sum it for you:

The hosts

The Portuguese are known to be one of the most warming and welcoming people in the world, but Andy and Danny have already mastered this skill of well receiving and making people feel at home. Besides, you can’t stay indifferent to their energy and passion for this place!

Eyes also eat

I’m a visual guy, no news there. But, seeing a place where minimal and modern architecture are smoothly incorporated in the local landscape, just amazed me!

The (Portuguese) details

Despite the minimal lines and concept behind Casa Azimute, Andy and Danny managed to incorporated several typical Portuguese elements, in a very elegant and smooth way. The tiles, the cork, the tapestry and the olive oil… (the olive oil is a pleasant hidden surprise, to be revealed only to the guests 😉 )

Some favourite extras

The homemade bread with raisins.

The silence. These days, it seems like it is becoming a luxury and you can totally enjoy it by the swimming pool or on the balcony of one the rooms.

The view! The rooms have wide windows over Alentejo’s olive trees and Estremoz castle on the top. And at night, the view gets even better with all the tiny lights in the distance!

Where exactly?

Just a few minutes away (by car) from Estremoz, and within a radius of 50km’s you can also visit other typical Alentejo villages and cities such as Arraiolos, Borba, Vila Viçosa, Évora or even Alqueva’s dam.

O objectivo deste blog tem sido sempre partilhar as minhas opiniões, experiências com as pessoas e locais mais interessantes que tenho conhecido e aquilo que é, eventualmente, a parte menos visível no meu trabalho e projectos pessoais. Para quem tem seguido a conta @keeponwalking no Instragram, já deve ter reparado que recentemente passei uns dias no Alentejo. E um dos pontos altos desta passagem pelo Alentejo, foi um dos sítios onde fiquei: a Casa Azimute.

É um turismo rural bastante recente, às portas de Estremoz, criado pelo Andy e o Danny, um duo Belga com gosto e uma queda para a arquitectura, design e conforto.

Mas, indo directo ao assunto, tenho de confessar que esta foi uma das melhores experiências que tive até agora. Porquê? Deixem-me resumir:

Os anfitriões

Os Portugueses podem ser conhecidos por serem um dos povos mais acolhedores do mundo, mas o Andy e o Danny já dominaram a arte de bem receber! Além disso, é impossível ficar indiferente à energia contagiante deles e à paixão por este sítio.

Os olhos também comem

Que eu sou um tipo visual, não é propriamente novidade. Mas, ver um sítio onde a arquitectura minimal e moderna foi discretamente integrada na paisagem local, impressionou-me!

Os detalhes (Portugueses)

Apesar das linhas modernas e do conceito no qual a Casa Azimute se baseia, o Andy e Danny conseguiram também incorporar elementos tipicamente Portugueses, de forma muito elegante e subtil. Os azulejos, a cortiça, o azeite… (e aqui, no que ao azeite diz respeito, é uma agradável surpresa escondida, para ser revelada a quem lá for 😉 )

Alguns extras favoritos

O pão de passas caseiro.

O silêncio. Que, actualmente parece estar a tornar-se um luxo e que neste caso, pode ser apreciado nas zonas comuns, como a piscina, nas varandas dos quartos e praticamente em todo o lado.

A vista!! Os quartos com janelas amplas, oferecem uma vista para uma paisagem de oliveiras com o castelo de Estremoz em fundo. E à noite, a vista fica ainda melhor, com a paisagem salpicada pelas luzinhas de Estremoz ao longe.

Onde mesmo?

Fica a poucos minutos (de carro) de Estremoz, mas num raio de 50 km’s, é possível visitar outras vilas e cidades tipicamente Alentejanas, como Arraiolos, Borba, Vila Viçosa, Évora ou um pouco mais além, até à zona da Barragem de Alqueva.
