I think few people have a name that fits them so well as Alba Baptista. “Alba” comes from the latin and it means “dawn”. In literature, “Alba” is a genre of Provençal poetry, that genre that made you wonder through stories of lovers who had to part ways at the dawn of a new day.

And when I had Alba Baptista in front of my lens, that’s kind of what I felt. A certain kind of beauty and purity that you can find in the fields, early in the morning, right before the sunrise.

But, let me go back to my first impressions of Alba…I believe I first noticed her on Instagram or maybe on tv, on some show. But she really caught my attention, when I watched the Portuguese tv series “Filha da Lei”. The whole series is great (among the Portuguese ones, it’s probably my favourite so far), with great performances, but the one that really stood out, IMHO, was Alba. After watching the series, Alba jumped to my list of “people I’d love to shoot one day” (no, I don’t have such a list, but you get the point).

And a few months later, we managed to match our schedules and get together. I would love to have recorded our conversation during the shooting and then transcript it here, to show you why I think Alba is so much more than a cute face. But we didn’t have that much time available, so we just went on talking and shooting.

Truth is, despite being so young, I believe Alba has an amazing potential. Yes, we can say that she’s still at an early stage of her career, but one has to consider also all the movies, tv series and soap operas on her resume, which together with her natural skills, can only make you wander about how far can she go? 🙂

As for the photos, Alba seems to be one of the sweetest souls I’ve recently met and I guess her face kind of shows that as well, or at least, that’s what I tried to capture. Scroll down and see for yourself.

Acho que poucas pessoas têm um nome que lhes assente tão bem, como a Alba Baptista. “Alba”, vem do latim e significa “alva”, “alvorada”. Na literatura, “Alba” é um género de poesia provençal ou trovadoresca, aquele tipo que nos faz deambular por histórias de amantes que têm de se separar quando chega a alvorada.

E quando tive a Alba em frente à minha câmera, foi mais ou menos isso que senti. Que estava a olhar para aquele tipo de beleza e pureza, que se encontra nos campos pelas primeiras horas do dia, antes do sol se pôr bem alto.

Mas, voltando às minhas primeiras impressões da Alba… já não sei se a primeira vez que reparei nela, foi no Instagram ou em algum programa na tv. Mas onde ela realmente captou a minha atenção, foi na série da RTP “Filha da Lei”. Quem ainda não viu a série, recomendo! A série está muito bem conseguida (é muito provavelmente a minha favorita entre as Portuguesas), e conta com desempenhos fantásticos, mas quem (na minha opinião) se destacou, foi a Alba. Depois de ver a série, a Alba saltou para a minha “lista de pessoas que tenho de fotografar um dia” (não, não tenho uma lista dessas, mas vocês percebem a ideia).

E uns meses depois, lá conseguimos acertar agendas para nos encontrarmos. Tenho pena de não ter gravado as coisas de que falámos durante a sessão, porque isso ajudaria a justificar o motivo pelo qual acho que a Alba é muito mais do que uma “cara bonita”. Mas não tivemos assim tanto tempo quanto isso, por isso, fomos fotografando e falando.

A verdade é que, apesar de ser bastante nova, acho que a Alba tem um potencial imenso. Sim, pode-se dizer que ela ainda está numa fase inicial da carreira, mas se considerarmos os filmes, as séries e as telenovelas que ela já tem no curriculum, e se ainda lhe juntarmos o jeito natural dela, então acho que é justo perguntar-mo-nos, até onde é que ela irá? 🙂

Quanto às fotografias, a Alba parece ser uma das almas mais doces com que me cruzei nos últimos tempos e acho que a cara dela, mostra isso mesmo, ou pelo menos, foi isso que procurei retratar.
