Back to the 80's @ JUTE Magazine
It’s been a while since I last shot a fashion editorial, actually… it’s been almost a year! And there were several reasons why it took me this long… but let’s focus on what made me shoot this one. In fact, I think I could easily sum it up, saying it was a very happy coincidence.
I have several themes/concepts on my notebook that I want to shoot, but it seems there’s always something missing… time (the most common one), the right person, the right location, etc
And this 80’s editorial was one of those cases. The stylist and producer Lúcia Valdevino was also very into this theme and during a few months, we talked about it, but we were missing a few important things like our own availability, a good location and the right model. At first, we wanted a blonde girl, for some reason, we always imagined these black & white images would look great with a blonde… until I did this testshoot with Lulu, which you might still remember from this previous post. Lulu has nothing to do with blonde editorial looking models, but she has something we loved: a very cool attitude and also that really crazy curly hair, which made us forget the blonde option and invite her instead. As for the location, I had already been at One 16 a few times before and I always felt that I needed to shoot an editorial there. That wide space with an abandoned old industrial vibe, was just perfect! Not to mention the natural light which is just what I love 😃
After these pieces were gathered, we just needed to match everyone’s schedule, including the make up artist Anabela Gonçalves, who’s always super supportive of my ideas and ready to jump in!
And that was pretty much it! Music has always been one of my main influences, so I guess the theme/concept of this editorial doesn’t require much of an explanation. The stylist/producer and I were on the exactly same page and I guess that’s why it all worked out so well. That and the fact that I found such a supporting team for it 😃 thank you all!

Já lá vai algum tempo desde que fiz o último editorial de moda, na verdade… quase um ano! E foram vários os motivos para isso… mas vamos ao que me levou a fotografar este. Na verdade, acho que se pode resumir ao seguinte: um conjunto de felizes coincidências.
Tenho vários temas/conceitos no meu bloco de notas, que quero fotografar, mas parece que falta sempre qualquer coisa… tempo (o mais comum), a pessoa certa, o local certo, etc
E este editorial dos anos 80, foi um desses casos. Sabia que a stylist e produtora Lúcia Valdevino também estava interessada neste tema e falámos sobre isso ao longo de alguns meses, mas faltavam sempre algumas coisas importantes, como a disponibilidade de cada um de nós, uma boa localização e a modelo certa. De início, queríamos uma modelo loira. Por algum motivo, achávamos que estas imagens a preto e branco, resultariam melhor com uma loira… até eu fazer um testshoot com a Lulu, do qual talvez se lembrem deste post anterior. A Lulu não tem nada a ver com a típica modelo loira com estilo editorial, mas tem algo que nós adorámos: uma atitude muito cool e uns caracóis bem porreiros, que nos fizeram esquecer a loira e convidá-la. Quanto à localização, já tinha estado no armazém One16 algumas vezes e sempre achei que tinha de fazer lá um editorial. O espaço enorme, com aquela vibe de armazém industrial abandonado era perfeito! Já para nem falar na luz natural, que eu adoro 😃
Reunidas estas “condições”, foi fazer um esforço para acertar as agendas de toda a gente, incluindo a da maquilhadora Anabela Gonçalves, sempre pronta para alinhar nas minhas ideias!
E foi basicamente isto! A música sempre foi uma das minhas principais influências, por isso, acho que o tema/conceito não precisa de grandes explicações. A stylist/produtora e eu estávamos perfeitamente alinhados em termos do mood que queríamos e acho isso contribuiu e muito para este resultado. Isso e o facto de ter reunido uma equipa tão disponível para me ouvir 😃 obrigado a todas!
