It’s that time of the year… some people make lists of goals and commitments for the new year, some people prefer to make a balance of everything that happened over the last 12 months. I find myself among the latter.

Rather than making a list of things that I will hardly accomplish, I prefer to compare where I am today and where I was a year ago. What I did during that time, what worked and what didn’t and eventually, make some changes for the coming months/year.

2016 was a pretty intense year. It’s been 2 and half years as a full time photographer and as if that wasn’t challenging enough, I decided to launch a new website/project - KAEOT - which I would say, was the most significant thing I did during last year (I hope that people reading this won’t feel like I'm disregarding or disrespecting other projects and assignments I worked on along the year), but KAEOT was clearly the most time consuming project of 2016. I wished I could have done even more with it (we always want to do more and better, right?), but all things considered, I’m happy with the fact that I did what I could.

The other remarkable thing about 2016 and of this second year of my new life (yeah, I know, it’s been long enough, but I still feel like it’s a new life), were the people that I crossed paths with. The new people I met, the new people I worked with and the new people, that in a very short period, managed to leave their mark on me. And I guess, this is the most important part of it all, right?

So, for 2017, I can only say that I’m curious and looking forward for what’s ahead :)

Chegou aquela altura do ano, em que algumas pessoas fazem listas de objectivos e compromissos pessoais e/ou profissionais para o novo ano, enquanto que outras preferem fazer um balanço do que se passou nos últimos 12 meses. E eu encontro-me neste último grupo.

Em vez de fazer uma lista de coisas que muito possivelmente não vou cumprir, prefiro olhar para onde estou e para onde estava há um ano atrás e tirar as minhas conclusões. O que fiz neste período, o que resultou o que não resultou e, eventualmente, fazer algumas alterações.

2016 foi um ano bastante intenso. Passaram-se já 2 anos e meio desde que embarquei nesta aventura de ser fotógrafo freelancer e como se isso não fosse desafiante o suficiente, resolvi lançar um site/projecto - KAEOT - que foi, muito provavelmente, o projecto mais significativo deste último ano (espero que as pessoas com quem colaborei noutros trabalhos e projectos ao longo do ano não se sintam menosprezadas), mas o KAEOT foi claramente o projecto que mais tempo (e não só) me consumiu ao longo de 2016. Gostava de ter feito ainda mais (queremos sempre fazer mais e melhor, não é?), mas tudo considerado e em boa consciência, acho que tenho de estar contente com o facto de ter feito o que estava ao meu alcance.

O outro facto notável de 2016 e deste segundo ano da minha nova vida (sim, eu sei que já passou tempo mais que suficiente, mas ainda continuo a sentir a coisa como se fosse uma nova vida), foram as pessoas com quem me cruzei. As novas pessoas que conheci, as novas pessoas com quem trabalhei e as novas pessoas que, num curto espaço de tempo, conseguiram deixar a sua marca em mim. E, no fim de contas, parece-me que isso é o que mais importa, certo?

Por isso, sobre 2017, apenas posso dizer que estou muito curioso para ver o que me reserva :)
