Northern Ireland
[ENG] I’ve made stories about it on IG and I even recorded a podcast (in Portuguese) with three little stories about my days around Northern Ireland… but I guess this post was missing. I mean, why should the photos be sitting on my hard drive only?
This was my second time on the Emerald Isle, most known as Ireland. I had been there more than 10 years ago, to visit the Republic of Ireland so this time, I went to Northern Ireland. And once again, I loved it. Hopefully, this wasn’t my last time on this magical island.
I started in Belfast for a couple days and then rented a car for what I was really looking forward: the majestic countryside and the beautiful and raw coastal views. I did the Causeway Coastal Route, stopping in places like Carrickfergus Castle, Cushendall, Ballycastle, Carrick-a-Rede, the Giant’s Causeway, Kinbane Castle, Dunluce Castle and Downhill Desmene.
Yeah, there were quite a few castles on the itinerary, but what can I say? Irish folks did know how to build some impressive ones, specially if you consider most of them were on steep backs over choppy waters. But I also went to Glenariff Forest for a hike in one of their trails, with views over a few imposing waterfalls. I wished I had taken a GoPro with me to capture the waterfalls. The paths leading to them were pretty narrow and slippery due to the intensity of the falling water which soaked everything around it - which means, my camera didn’t come out of the backpack.
I still managed to go a bit south and visit Castlewellan for a couple hours walk on their Forest Park and their beautiful maze with views over the Mourne Mountains. The Mourne Moutains also seemed worth visiting, but time was a running out, so… I had to rejoice with the view from a far.

[PT] Já tinha feito stories no IG e até gravei um episódio no podcast, com três pequenas histórias sobre os meus dias pela Irlanda do Norte (quem não ouviu, é só clicar aqui), mas, porque haveriam as fotografias de ficar sozinhas no disco rígido?
Esta foi a minha segunda vez na Ilha Esmeralda, mais conhecida por Irlanda. Há mais de 10 anos, andei pela República da Irlanda, por isso, desta vez optei pela Irlanda do Norte. Valeu muito a pena e como diz o povo, "não há duas sem três”…
Comecei em Belfast onde fiquei 2 dias até alugar um carro, para poder ir aos sítios que queria mesmo ver. Fiz a Causeway Coastal Route (nome da estrada que contorna toda a costa, ligando as duas principais cidades do país, Belfast e Londonderry). Os pontos de interesse ao longo desta estrada são muitos e os desvios possíveis para o interior, ainda mais. Fiz paragens/desvios para ver o castelo de Carrickfergus, Cushendall, Ballycastle, Carrick-a-Rede, Giant’s Causeway, o castelo de Kinbane, o castelo de Dunluce e Downhill Desmene.
Sim, o percurso incluiu vários castelos, mas a minha curiosidade não conseguiu ignorar a obra e engenho deste irlandeses que decidiram construir imponentes castelos em cima de autênticos precipícios sobre o mar.
Nestes meus dias de carro pela costa, também me aventurei pelo interior do país, para visitar a Floresta de Glenariff e fazer um dos seus percursos, que passava por cascatas imponentes. Tive pena de não ter levado uma GoPro comigo para poder fotografar as cascatas. Os percursos eram estreitos, molhados e escorregadios devido à força da água, que molhava tudo num raio bastante alargado - o que significa, que a máquina não saiu da mochila.
Deu ainda para rumar a sul e visitar Castlewellan e passear um bocado pela Floresta que rodeia esta pequena vila e visitar o fantástico e bem cuidado labirinto com vistas para as montanhas de Mourne, que também queria visitar, mas o tempo não deu para mais, por isso, tive que me contentar com a vista ao longe.
Mas chega de conversa e vamos ao que interessa! 🙂
