Know your game

Test shoots can usually be done in a couple hours. But when you notice that after 3 hours of shooting, you could still go on, that means you are not only getting along with the model, but that you are working with someone who also loves what she’s doing.

I think these two lines say a lot about Liliana. But let me add some more: most models, bring 2 or 3 outfits to these shootings and that’s perfectly ok. But then, there are models like Liliana, who bring several options, all of which work perfectly. She knew exactly how and what to wear in each situation. And in the end, she surprised me with a request: she’s been doing this series of photos with a red dress she loves. In this series, she asks photographers she works with, to take a photo of her in the red dress. The photo is supposed to be taken in whatever way the photographer finds it best. The result: a series of beautiful photos that you can check on Instagram under the hashtag #lilisreddress

I loved the request and in my case, considering my Gemini duality, I shot her first in my usual black & white and then, I thought I should show her how I saw the dress in colours and we went to a place I thought would match both with the dress and herself.

And I could go on about this lovely half Portuguese half German girl, but I gotta keep these posts short :)

Anyway, the bottom line from this shooting with Liliana: know your game and rock at it!

Os test shoots são, normalmente, feitos em pouco mais de 2 horas. Mas quando se passam mais de 3 horas a fotografar e te apercebes que ainda poderias continuar por mais umas quantas horas, normalmente significa que fotógrafo e modelo se estão a entender muito bem e que a modelo é alguém que adora o que faz.

Acho que estas primeiras frases dizem muito da Liliana. Mas deixem-me acrescentar algo mais: a maioria das modelos, leva para estes shootings, 2 ou 3 mudas de roupa, e tudo bem, não há nenhum limite. Mas depois, há modelos como a Liliana, que levam várias opções, todas elas óptimas. Ela sabia exactamente o que vestir em cada situação. E no final, surpreendeu-me com um pedido: a Liliana tem estado a fazer uma série de fotografias com um vestido vermelho que ela adora. Nesta série, ela pede aos fotógrafos com quem trabalha, que lhe tirem uma fotografia com o dito vestido. A regra é que a fotografia seja feita de acordo com o estilo próprio de cada fotógrafo. O resultado? Um conjunto de belíssimas fotografias da Liliana e do seu vestido vermelho, que podem acompanhar no Instagram, através da hashtag #lilisreddress

Adorei a ideia dela e no meu caso, considerando a minha dualidade Geminiana, fotografei-a primeiro no habitual registo a preto e branco e depois, não resisti a fazer também uma versão a cores num local que achei que combinaria bem com ela e com o vestido. Não sei se quebrei a regra de fazer uma fotografia de acordo com o "meu estilo", mas isto de ser Geminiano, tem muito que se lhe diga...

E poderia continuar aqui a falar desta adorável meio-Portuguesa-meio-Alemã, mas prometi manter estes posts curtos :) 

Em todo o caso, aqui fica a "moral" deste shooting com a Liliana: conheçam-se bem a vocês próprias/os, conheçam o meio em que actuam e depois arrasem!
